Frequently Asked Questions
Can family members or friends participate?
We welcome family and friends to accompany the individual struggling with depression or bipolar for emotional or moral support, however, participation in support groups is not allowed for family and friends. Our support groups are specifically for those with direct lived experience of mental health conditions.
Is there a cure for mood disorders?
Some instances of Depression can be cured through therapy, medication, or both. Usually, both treatments are recommended together. However, for many people, they experience recurrent periods of Depression on or off throughout their lives, & there is no cure for Bipolar Disorder, though there is management. Research is underway. . . for better treatments & a potential cure.
I think I have depression/bipolar disorder. What should I do?
You can find free and confidential screening tools on our website to help detect symptoms of depression and mania (a sign of bipolar disorder). They can help identify whether you may have one of these conditions. Take the results of the screening to your doctor and talk with them about a possible diagnosis. Mood disorders need treatment and early diagnosis is very important. Most treatment plans include a combination of medication, talk therapy, and support. Avoiding treatment out of embarrassment or shame—or because you can believe you can “snap out of it”—is a dangerous decision. Getting help is important.
